Reminder of the season passed

Reminder of the season passed

Just stepping out, not more than 10-minute walk away. But grab a camera anyway. It is there, waiting for you. The visual inspiration, the thing that touches on your string somewhere, the shock of the contrast, the beautiful melody of flowing movement, or just a cold statement of what it is. So grab a camera. I am in Osaka for a 2-week visit, to attend my cousin’s wedding. It’s been a long time since I was last here in the hot and humid summer. Temp up to 35 degrees, with 50% humidity, it is not a very comfortable place. But what’s changed since my younger days is my parents’ house is now fitted with air-con units. After spending all day working in front of the old MacBook that’s struggling with over heat, I threw the Fuji and a few lenses into the new waist-pack camera bag. Earlier in the afternoon Fuji’s just published the new firmware for the X cameras, with the kind of improvements that I’ve been waiting for, so I was eager to test it out.

I also added a rather expensive but beautiful mid-range lens for Fuji, just in time for the wedding shoot and the family shoot that I covered on the weekend before. While I am very happy with the decision to invest in this set of heavy glass, I was keen to get the feel as to how the world looks when I point it at something other than candid look of people around me. I walked 15 minutes to the large park nearby, the park I used to spend almost every evening during my high school year, speeding about on my bicycle, pointing my old Canon at everything from dogs, trees, sunset…

Who says the smiling face is the best part? I quite liked this texture on the back of sunflowers, too.

The sun is setting and the sky is not so blue. A little different mood from the familiar saturated blue and yellow…

Water lilies… People here are very sensitive to the signs of seasons. My dad was the one who reminded me it is now the time of the year for this. They actually open in the morning and close at night, so they are most graceful and full of lovely smell about at the day break. But even in the fading light, standing tall with tightly closed flowers, I think they are beautiful.

I don’t know when I get to come here in the summer, but next time I’d like to take the long drive I took a long time ago, to the small country town in the north, and walk the evening path to the ruin of the old castle where the fire flies hover in the summer breeze. That’s one for the next summer trip…

Soft rain

My friend and I had a quick coffee in the balcony outside his kitchen, and got in my car. As we pulled into a carpark at the end of the dirt road, gentle drizzle started to come down. Covering the camera from rain with both hands making a roof under my neck, I enjoyed the walk in this beautiful place.

At the park

On the day a horse race stopped the nation, I was asked to photograph a mother and her beautiful children on a short visit to Melbourne. It was a cool and cloudy morning, but we made the best of it and captured some beautiful natural expressions. The father of the family was unfortunately unable to leave work back home. Maybe next time, he can join us, too.

Little Yuuna-chan takes the hand of her little brother Iori, making sure it’s always safe and fun for him.

Look at him go!

The shirt, the tie and the hat. He’s making a bit of statement…

It was a horse-led carriage straight out of a fairly tale. Everyone was waving at the little princess and the handsome prince.

I hope you enjoyed your short stay in Melbourne.

Saturday in Warburton

For a catch up with friends, I suggested this little place in Warburton. I found the cafe in September, but at that time I did not have time to try the food they have on offer. The walking by the stream would be a good way to catch up, rather than shouting over the noise of busy city coffee shop…

So here we are, a smooth drive through Eastern Freeway and local highway, we arrived at the Warburton Pantry. As we stepped inside, it was busy with people buying take-away coffee’s, fresh bread from bakery, organic eggs, all sorts of stuff. Smiling from behind the counter, Leila and Brendan showed us the big table in the back, where we started our lazy Saturday afternoon…

Smooth, honest coffee. No excessive bitterness, just mild, light and tasy. My kind of coffee!

Last time I had a rich muffin. This time, the brownie. Let’s see how I go!

Need I say more?

Boys had a few drinks and totally relaxed. We had our walk, we sat down at another cafe for more drinks and some more food, and we went back to the city as the heavy rain came and the day turned into the night.
